First grade uses the Treasures Reading Program by McGraw- Hill. It is a comprehensive, research-based program that offers high quality literature to engage students to be life-long readers and writers. Explicit instruction and practice guide students' growth toward reading proficiency. Each week's lesson integrates reading, grammar, writing, and spelling for a total language arts approach.
Your child will learn through small group, whole group, independent activities and computers. During our CORE time, the instruction is whole group.
During our Personalized Instruction Time (PIT), the students meet in small guided reading groups where the strategies and skills are reinforced and practiced at your child’s level.
The students will utilize the Waterford computer reading program during PIT. This technology component is leveled for each student to review reading comprehension, vocabulary, and phonics skills.
